Message from the Music Director

"Welcome to the Poole Society for Young Musicians, and thank you for your continued interest and support. It is a great pleasure to invite parents and sponsors to explore the opportunities we offer for young people to engage deeply with music at the highest level.
I founded the Society in 2010 after many years of teaching young musicians to diploma levels and beyond, and witnessing first-hand the dedication and talent of students who loved their music, many of whom have gone on to pursue professional careers. I have also enjoyed a fulfilling career as a professional viola player with the Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra alongside freelancing with other professional Orchestras, which has shaped my understanding of excellence, discipline, and the lasting importance of high-quality music education.
Having benefited from a rich and inspiring music education myself growing up in West Glamorgan in Wales, I became increasingly aware of the growing gaps in provision, a declining focus on classical music and progression routes to reach a good standard on an instrument so young musicians can benefit from all that goes with this. This led me to try to concentrate on strengthening music education at grassroots level where I can influence, with the aim of nurturing the next generation of committed classical musicians and informed audiences, with much help from professional musician colleagues, especially Simon Gilliver, and a committee team of helpers.
Everything we do at the Poole Society for Young Musicians charity is founded on positivity, encouragement, and highest standards of excellence at every level of learning . Through strong relationships with some of the UK’s leading Music institutions and musicians friends from professional orchestras, our young musicians benefit from exceptional musical guidance, inspiration, and opportunities.
We are extremely grateful for the ongoing support of our parents, sponsors, and partners especially SoundStorm. Commitment enables us to continue offering outstanding musical experiences and ensures that young musicians in our community can thrive. I hope you will find something within our programme that inspires your child and that, together, we can continue to build a vibrant and sustainable musical future.
With my sincere thanks and best wishes,
Alison Kay BEM
